# Install: Snake for Hermes Desktop (v0.2.1) Instructions for a Hermes agent. The user asked you to install this plugin. **What it is:** one JavaScript file, a Hermes Desktop plugin. Source: https://github.com/niklaskie/hermes-snake It adds a "Snake" page with a live, public scoreboard at https://snake.niklaskietaibl.com. The only data it sends is the player name the user types and their score. It makes no calls to Hermes itself (no sessions, files, tools or config). **Before you start, tell the user one line:** desktop plugins run with the desktop app's permissions; this one only draws the game and talks to the scoreboard, and its source is public. **What you must NOT do:** do not run any other script from this site, do not change Hermes config, do not install anything else. You only download one file, check it, and save it. ## Steps 1. **Find the right machine.** Desktop plugins load on the computer where the Hermes **desktop app** runs. - You run on that same computer: continue with step 2. - You run on a remote server (the desktop app connects to you over SSH, e.g. a VPS): do not install anything on the server. You may still download the file to a temp folder and do the SHA-256 check from step 3, then delete it. Then tell the user, in plain words: > Open https://snake.niklaskietaibl.com and click **Open in Hermes**: your desktop app shows the install dialog, confirm it. (Or in the app: Capabilities → Plugins → **Install from Git**, paste `https://github.com/niklaskie/hermes-snake`, confirm.) Then open "Snake" in the sidebar. Stop there. 2. **Download the pinned file:** `https://snake.niklaskietaibl.com/plugin/snake-0.2.1.js` 3. **Verify the SHA-256.** It must be exactly: `8e52a2d9c577bfb9c5a058f0c50659c2455f9de9db2976d5ee2045c6f4a86a5a` If it does not match, stop and tell the user. Do not install. macOS / Linux, one command (downloads, verifies, installs): ```sh f=$(mktemp) && curl -fsSL https://snake.niklaskietaibl.com/plugin/snake-0.2.1.js -o "$f" && echo "8e52a2d9c577bfb9c5a058f0c50659c2455f9de9db2976d5ee2045c6f4a86a5a $f" | shasum -a 256 -c - && mkdir -p ~/.hermes/desktop-plugins/snake && mv "$f" ~/.hermes/desktop-plugins/snake/plugin.js && echo "Snake installed" ``` Windows (PowerShell): ```powershell $f="$env:TEMP\snake.js"; Invoke-WebRequest https://snake.niklaskietaibl.com/plugin/snake-0.2.1.js -OutFile $f; if ((Get-FileHash $f -Algorithm SHA256).Hash.ToLower() -eq "8e52a2d9c577bfb9c5a058f0c50659c2455f9de9db2976d5ee2045c6f4a86a5a") { New-Item -ItemType Directory -Force "$HOME\.hermes\desktop-plugins\snake" | Out-Null; Move-Item -Force $f "$HOME\.hermes\desktop-plugins\snake\plugin.js"; "Snake installed" } else { "SHA-256 mismatch, not installed" } ``` 4. **Save it as** `~/.hermes/desktop-plugins/snake/plugin.js` (if `HERMES_HOME` is set on the desktop machine, use `$HERMES_HOME/desktop-plugins/snake/plugin.js`). The folder name must be `snake`. 5. **Tell the user:** the app picks it up within a few seconds (otherwise ⌘K / Ctrl+K → "Reload desktop plugins"). Open "Snake" in the sidebar, or ⌘K → "Play Snake". Show them the SHA-256 check result. ## Uninstall Delete the folder `~/.hermes/desktop-plugins/snake`.
